(Senior) Trade Finance Officer
The Role
We are looking for an experienced (Senior) Trade Finance Specialist to manage and oversee the trade finance activities of the trading group. In this position you will handle the full lifecycle of letters of credit, guarantees and standby letters of credit (SBLC), process daily payments, and maintain strong working relationships with our banks, offshore offices and operations teams. You will also play a central role in monitoring and controlling trade finance risk on both the sales and purchase side, identifying and resolving issues at an early stage.
This is a key role within the finance team, offering the opportunity to combine hands-on trade finance execution with risk oversight and close, day-to-day collaboration with our operations and trading colleagues.
Your Responsibilities
- Managing letters of credit (L/C), guarantees and standby letters of credit (SBLC) end to end, including issuing and processing L/Cs, monitoring due dates, reviewing incoming L/Cs for workability, chasing amendments, and checking and presenting documents
- Handling daily payments, verifying their plausibility and monitoring incoming payments
- Maintaining strong working relationships with banks, offshore offices and operations staff
- Supporting operations staff by advising them, alerting them to potential risks and helping to find solutions
- Monitoring and controlling trade finance activities, with early identification of risk on both the sales and purchase side
- Monitoring stock levels and coordinating warehouse surveys
Your Profile and experiences
• At least 3–5 years' experience in letters of credit (L/C), preferably with a banking background
• 2–3 years' back-office experience in a bank (desirable) or inside a commodity trading company
- Analytical, precise and reliable, with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach and strong communication skills
• Confident and assertive, flexible, and able to work effectively under pressure and on your own initiative
• ownership, integrity and discretion when handling confidential information, and a genuine team player
• Fluent in English (the company language); additional languages such as German and Spanish are a plus
